Alright then, I've DM'd him on Twitter to see if he's still keen. He's commented before in support of the Nintendo angle, so I think focusing on that aspect shouldn't be a problem. For him anyway - though I dread to imagine what kind of fanboy breakdowns we might witness on camera from those who insist it shouldn't be published by TeH EnEmY!!!!

I like the idea. I don't think we'd get a hundred in time for November, but the point would be made before anybody could sit through that many clips anyway.
The only minor complication is that someone recently brought up a similar idea on Facebook (on both the Team Yu page and the Shenmue 500K group), so although I know you had the idea first, we'd now appear disrespectful if we didn't heavily involve him in compiling the footage. How about the two of you work together on it?

What good is a wage if there's no Shenmue 3 to spend it on? Priorities, Pat. These links should bring you up to speed on the Nintendo angle.

Y'know, I didn't even think to look for replies from Nintendo. I just assumed there wouldn't be any, but it is their first experience of the Tweetathon so who knows. I'll have a scan through their feed later just to be sure.
Edit: Didn't take long to look, they don't tweet a lot. No replies about Shenmue, but hardly surprising given how far our of their jurisdiction it is at the moment. All we can hope for is that it planted the seed of conversation within their organisation. Where it goes from there, we'll probably never know unless and until a deal is announced.

Facebook just offered me a £25 coupon to use on their internal advertising, so I've spent it on ads promoting the Team Yu page over the next 24 hours, targeted at gamers with keywords like Shenmue and Dreamcast in their profiles. Twenty-five quid probably doesn't buy much at all, but in this case it's free so can't hurt, right?

If they state outright that Shenmue HD doesn't exist, then that'll be news in itself. The most they can probably say in that regard is that it hasn't been announced, so as not to sound like liars if the game does become a reality. But I'm a fool to try and predict what they'll say after last time, so I'm gonna shut up now.

Got it Johnny, thanks. It's a really interesting slip-up. Either the customer support agent let the cat out of the bag without realising, or he was just blagging it because the game isn't on his list of pending releases. Whichever it is remains to be seen, but either way it's a good catch.

New post, addressing the fanboy issue without ever using the word fanboy:

Maybe we could organise a mini campaign to Nintendo. We're encouraging everyone to include Nintendo in this Wednesday's Tweetathon, so we'll see if it catches on. My old PM was taking you up on your offer of a screenshot of that email from Sega, but that's probably not possible on your phone so there's no rush for it.

Welcome back Johnny, how's uni going? These are probably the best starting points for catching up on the latest happenings:

More superbly diplomatic replies by Captain S'mue'th there. I should just let you write the next post I'm lining up for Facebook, because I'm not sure I can avoid ruffling a lot of feathers while telling stubborn fanboys (and fangirls) to get the fuck over their anti-Nintendo prejudices if Shenmue 3 matters to them as much as they say it does. Very disappointed in the amount of whinging about how Shenmue should never be on a Nintendo console - as if Sega and Nintendo were still mortal enemies or the Dreamcast 2 was still a possibility. It's only a minority of people, but annoying all the same. Shenmue fans should be old enough and/or wise enough to rise above this irrational fanboy mentality.

I see, I wondered what he was talking about when he mentioned a cover of some sort. Well I think he's wrong to have given in, and I'm certain that I've seen covers of that magazine that featured far less interesting or passionately followed games than Shenmue. It opens my eyes a little to their editorial attitudes to hear they dismissed it so roundly.

I just stumbled upon LongsunZhao's video (you remember the video, from the start of this thread?) on YouTube, at random. Then I recognised the URL at the end as being the old address for this forum. So on the off chance that LZ reads this: it's a really nice video, I enjoyed it. On the topic of more (relatively) recent posts in the thread, I don't think you need to look further than the endings of the first two Yakuza games (and possibly the rest, I haven't played them yet) for examples of how to redeem a villain without shortchanging the player on that climactic battle against them. Yakuza 2 achieved this particularly well.

Well mue, I've got to hand it to you, you're a far more patient man than I. The way you calmly handle criticism with grace and reasoned arguments is something I can only aspire to. That's why I try and keep my nose out of the campaign discussions at the Dojo! It's funny how different forums have their own collective mindsets. That one's obviously the kind where everyone tries to score points by getting in the best put-down, unless it's against something they fear might be popular with the cool kids of the board. That type of forum can be entertaining to read when you're not emotionally invested in the topic, but frustrating if you find yourself siding with the target of their snide derision. Meanwhile other forums, like the GameCentral community, are more down to earth and accepting of different ideas, whether they agree with them or not. I guess it's a self perpetuating cycle at both ends - sites with a certain atmosphere will attract people who enjoy and contribute to that same atmosphere, causing it to become ever more pronounced, for better or worse. Edit 1: Retro Gamer magazine's following @teamyuneedsyou. Edit 2: Or at least, they were... Must have changed their mind.
