I guess the video did the trick, because Ziming's now agreed to tweet on the 3rd despite his lack of faith in the project, while appearing to admit that he'd been deliberately ignoring our appeals until now.

I hope you know Toyah's on Pointless Celebrities right now, Pat.
That is, the celebrity version of the game show Pointless, not a countdown of the top 100 celebs with nil redeeming features. Perish the thought.

Answer: None. Anyway, on with the stats... Here's the initial graph. However, that includes some anomalous data, because a bunch of spam accounts latched onto some messages and gave them each 200 additional retweets. It seems daft to include those totals so I've deducted 200 from each of the affected tweets and now here's the more realistic graph. And that still results in a very pleasing picture. Here's the write-up on Facebook.

Tweetathon tomorrow, don't forget!
I've been trying to get more Shenmue fan groups involved, so we'll see which sites and Facebook pages actually lend their support on the day.

The polls have closed and Ryo has won the public vote. BUT! Sega forum members are now debating whether it's fair to present him as their number one choice because he was in the previous game... EDIT: The head of Sumo Digital has stepped in and confirmed he'll be taking all the names who've passed 1000 votes, so Ryo's spot is safe - provided there aren't a ridiculous number of duplicates when he examines the data.

I figured it would be up your street especially, mue. It had been at the back of my mind for a while too, until someone in a GC Facebook group mentioned that Steam had it on special offer. Hopefully it still is, though the site's not loading for me to check.

Ryo's currently in first place. Can he stay ahead of Miku until Saturday? The tension is almost too much to bear...

Played this short game over the past few days and, as much as I want to force every human being to sit down and experience this story, I know it'll be a hard sell for the Call of Duty crowd. But since this is a Shenmue site, I'm gonna recommend it in the strongest possible terms. Buy this bloomin' game, you nincompoops!
Don't go searching for screenshots or reading up on it too much, or you will encounter some potentially ruinous spoilers. Just trust me that, while the graphics are rarely more than a Master System or Mega Drive could handle, and it doesn't have a whole lot of traditional gameplay (more of an interactive novel really), this is one you're going to remember for all the right reasons. For the piddling price of admission, you might as well.

I don't know what it is. I assume it's nothing to do with Johnny. If they've heard something that can't be verified, then they're absolutely right to not go spreading it around yet. But I agree with Lan Di-sama's response, that indulging in "nudge-nudge, wink-wink, we know something you don't know" behaviour almost nullifies whatever nobility points they may have earned.

Cheers Pat. Though I'm not technically 30 until about five minutes to midnight tonight. Let me cling to that for a while longer, just as I clung on three decades ago.

Ryo's nabbed second place and now challenges for the top spot, but a new twist in the rules says it may not be enough!

I'll buy it if Ryo's added, otherwise I'm not going to validate their decision to leave him out. Edit: Ryo's currently in third place, behind two unlikely characters with better organized support. If he can hold this position until 1st December, then it'll be mission accomplished. But that's a long road ahead, with some unnervingly large competition in his rear view phoenix mirror. Fans need to keep spreading the word.

In concept it's a Mario Kart clone. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just a label for the cutesy mascots with power-ups racing genre, just as first-person shooters were known as Doom clones for many years until there were enough of them for the name to lose all relevance. The same would happen with Diablo clones if there were a greater number of successful games of that type to compare them with. Anyway, here's a video I've cobbled together to try and help stir up support for Ryo's petition. Please feel free to share: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj-3jUf3PLc

Difficult to know where to post this, but for those who might have missed it, this is from the Team Yu Facebook/Google+ pages:
You may be like me and not really care about Sega's latest Mario Kart clone, but this is still an opportunity to demonstrate the popularity of Shenmue, directly to real decision makers at Sega (rather than their front line social media staff). A place on the podium for Ryo in this contest would make the campaign for Shenmue III that little bit easier, so please vote and spread the word.

Keep us posted, Johnny. What do you guys think of this website header? I've wanted to avoid giving the site a dark background, for many reasons, but to accommodate this image I've compromised by having the black fade into a lighter colour down the page. Worth it?

Big name from the television heyday of British wrestling, when it would draw more viewers than the FA Cup final. Real name Shirley Crabtree. Also a fat one trick pony who was able to keep the show revolving around him, at the expense of far more talented wrestlers and eventually the TV audience, due to the promoter being his brother Max.
