I was chuffed to see that too. And the Tweetathon seems to be going really well in general, though it's always difficult to tell on the day.
I've been restricted to using Twitter's mobile site for most of the day, which only shows a limited number of search results, so now that I'm home I've gone back to retweet everything I missed inbetween those I was able to catch nearer the time. Problem is, I've now exceeded my hourly tweet limit! So I have to wait until I can resume my catch-up, and until I can post the rest of the tweets I'd prepared of my own. Bloody Twitter...

Tweetathon tomorrow, peeps, don't forget! I'm looking at you, Pat.
Interestingly 1UP.com, who've just run a feature on "living worlds" in games with Shenmue taking centre stage, have just started following Team Yu on Twitter - both their main website account and one of their writers. Maybe if they see a flood of tweets tomorrow it could get mentioned on the site? Even if they participate with a retweet, they have a lot of followers.

It's a sad shame that the most comprehensive online resource for Shenmue knowledge and materials chooses to represent itself so badly with a forum that's knowingly mismanaged to the detriment of a community that ought to be galvanised by such a place.
I believe that's what JoePesciAddict meant to say.

I'm beginning to wish I'd stuck around at that place, it sounds like a barrel of laughs. A warm reflection of Shenmue's inspirational moral code.
To act without hesitation. To do what is right. Seems Yama was paying close attention there.

I've suggested that they try asking independent retailers to stock leaflets instead, before resorting to the boxes if they refuse. With chains like GAME however it's probably not even worth asking about leaflets, as they probably have nationwide policies to adhere to and the managers aren't as likely to be passionate about niche games. I've posted something on the Facebook page (you'll be able to read it without registering) that evolves our stance on Shenmue HD, highlighting the possibility that it may happen and that Sega should be congratulated if it does, but that our mission will continue to focus on their uncertain commitment to Shenmue 3. It's been getting a lot of likes overnight, probably more to do with the nicely rendered image than the text though.

Johnny, in case you don't see the notification, I've PM'd you. By the way, there's been talk at Shenmue 500K that strangely coincides with our discussion about fliers in game shops. The idea there though is to secretly place Shenmue 3 game boxes on the shelves, with campaign details on the back cover. What do you think?

You're right in that it may have been standard wording that email reps are supposed to reply with whenever they don't have a definite answer. He might have seen "Shenmue HD" and thought, "Hmm, don't know anything about that... It's not on my list of release dates... But I know the other two are coming so I guess this one must be too... I'll just copy and paste Template C."
Still, while it's not conclusive evidence, it's at least the first piece of admissible evidence that I've seen so far. It could still go either way but it lights a flicker of hope. At least here we've got a proven employee of Sega appearing to confirm that the only thing up in the air is the release date. Whether he's right or wrong, we can speculate, but at least his words are more tangible than the wishy-washy, non-committal references that have been hyped up in the recent past.

You make a compelling argument Johnny and I agree, let's just use this to make our plans ahead of the official announcement, and tread carefully so as not to appear ungrateful for the HD ports and as you say, impossible to please. If they're gonna throw us a bone, we should return in kind.
That said, we're still only a quiet voice amongst the masses anyway, so to apply even gentle pressure overall, we still need to be working hard.

I'm in two minds, but I think you're probably right about holding off for now. We certainly don't want to discourage them from releasing those HD ports - they're a very welcome release, whether they're part of any strategy for Shenmue 3 or not.
I'm not convinced that Shenmue 3 is a definite - I'd like to think so, but they're re-releasing a lot of older games right now and they can't all be getting sequels. Shenmue obviously needs it the most for artistic reasons, but I don't think that's Sega's priority these days.

Part of me's thinking that, actually, if we do put this out there, then we remove what Sega perhaps perceives to be their advantage. Right now, Sega might be seeing the Tweetathon and thinking, "Well, they don't know we're about to drop Shenmue HD in their laps - they'll be singing a different tune when we prove them wrong with that." Maybe we should voluntarily tear down that curtain and show them (and other people) that it's less important than they think?

Alright, alright, calm down, calm down! But that sounds like great news Johnny. Do post the screenshots tomorrow so we can see the full context of the quote, but it's hard to take it as anything but encouraging. If/when the HD updates are made official, it will make our mountain a little steeper to climb in terms of public participation, but it doesn't invalidate our cause. By leading more gamers down the crushing cul-de-sac of Shenmue II's cliffhanger, Sega only makes it more imperative that Shenmue III be made, and these re-releases are no guarantee that they'll do it themselves. We'll need to keep the pressure on them to either announce that sequel, or do all these newly created fans a favour and let Suzuki make the game by other means. Otherwise they're just breeding a whole new generation of resentment.
