Exactly, the first two games were developed together, and what also contributed to the cost was starting out on the Saturn and then redoing everything for the Dreamcast once that decision to change platforms was made (and you'll have seen what a transformation that was).

I'm beginning to wonder if I've bitten off more than I can chew with the website. I have so many plans for it, that I'm really excited about, but the stupidest of things keep giving me headaches.
One being that emails sent from the site are flagged as potentially spoofing the domain and my webhosts are incapable of being in any way helpful about it. Another is the time honoured complaint of cross-browser compatibility issues - everything works fine in Firefox, falls completely apart in IE, and others are somewhere in the middle.
I don't have time for all this!

That's never going to happen due to egos and such, but what we can aim for is getting all the groups singing from the same hymn sheet. If everyone supports the Tweetathon then it doesn't matter how many different petitions they've signed or which forums or Facebook pages they report to on a daily basis - they'll all be in the same place at the same time once a month, presenting a united front.

Is Ziming keen on helping the campaign then? I haven't heard from him yet, but if he's referring to the ShenmueFans page, it has roughly the same number of 'members' as Shenmue500K (just slightly more) and right now seems slightly less active (though I may be catching it on a slow week). One of 500K's main organisers, Andy Stinton, posts on it to publicise the Tweetathon but yes, more could still be done. The page seems to be set up more as a "we love Shenmue" shrine than a tool to promote action, so there's wasted potential there.

I'd like to claim that was a sly tactic of mine, but alas, the Metro website really is that buggy. And that was on my PC, where I usually don't have any problems - it's a hundred times worse on my phone. "Expand comment thread, you say? Well maybe I will, maybe I won't..."
Even though the Team Yu website's nowhere near finished, I'm going to try and have a functional holding page ready soon that allows people to at least register, so they can receive Tweetathon reminders by email and a notification when the site has launched properly.
For the full site, one of the things that's been requested on Facebook is a Shenmue "story so far" page. I'm not fresh enough on the details of the plot to write something like that - do you know anyone (with a decent writing standard) who'd enjoy putting it together, with full credit given?
PS: Well, damn. It turns out the editor of 1UP was trying to contact campaign organisers for comment before publishing their article earlier this month, but I didn't see his messages because Facebook had mysteriously subcategorised them as 'Other' and not included them in my notifications.
Bloody Facebook... Suddenly the Metro site doesn't seem so bad.

There was nothing really wrong with the idea at the time. Some of those responses were depressingly familiar - "Heard it all before," "Can't be bothered," etc. The atmosphere of the place was summed up by the guy who basically said "I used to have enthusiasm, now I've been here a couple of months and I've lost all hope."
One strength I believe the monthly Tweetathon has, even for those who don't agree with the hashtag's premise, is that it keeps the fanbase vocal and active - so that even if a better idea comes along, the fans are already mobilised and paying attention. Any new direction the campaign takes wouldn't be from a standing start, as we'll already have so many people focused on Twitter on the 3rd of each month, with their minds set on making Shenmue 3 happen. Keeping the pot on the boil, so to speak.

Just popped over to the Dojo, and there seems to be a rise in positive interest in the campaign there. Well done for flying the flag so tirelessly, mue!
In a random "small world" moment, I was surprised to find someone I used to post with on a British wrestling forum is now following on Twitter, without any way of him knowing the connection. Just a mad coincidence.
Goes to show that there are more Shenmue fans around than you think. Someone on Facebook requested that the new Team Yu website sell merchandise. Obviously it would be daft to infringe on any copyrights, but what do you reckon to a T-shirt with the hashtag on it? Maybe a range of them featuring the hashtag alongside well known quotes from the game - "I'm looking for sailors" etc. They could be sold through a site like CafePress with minimal markup, contributing towards various website costs like hosting and, if the money's there, advertising. I don't want it to look like the campaign's become commercialized, but if the demand's there then it's just another way for people to enjoy supporting it and spreading the word.

I think you've got it right.
On another note, as I mentioned at some point, I'm thinking of setting up a Team Yu website, primarily to make everything clearly accessible in one place. But I've also got a lot of other ideas for it - more than I'll ever have time to implement, if I'm honest. Right now however, I'm stuck on the most basic choice of all: the domain name.
TeamYu.com is the obvious one, everyone's familiar with the ubiquitous .com extension and, chances are, if it was anything else then people would probably assume it's because .com was already taken.
But then, TeamYu.org better represents the campaign nature of the site, in the same way that charities and such use that extension. It's an unpleasant sounding abbreviation though, and in black and white it's too reminiscent of the word orgy...
Swinging in from the other side however is TeamYu.net, which I feel flows better and hints at the social networking that the campaign is built around. But again it kinda screams "second choice" as people will wonder why it isn't just .com.
Such a simple decision, the easiest part of the whole process, but an important one to get right. Any thoughts?
Never mind, made a choice now.

Thanks for the link. I wonder if he's just referring to the misunderstanding with @shenmue500k - I'm not sure how it came about, but either they thought he was part of Sega (understandable from the wording of his initial tweet) and was therefore accountable for giving Yu the license, or he just thought they thought that. As I say, a misunderstanding either way, that nonetheless seemed to be cleared up in the end, albeit with S0L probably wishing he'd just kept quiet...
Reading his colleagues' replies to that initial tweet also muddies the waters over who thought what, when, and why. His first tweet is phrased as if people have already been hounding him directly, under the mistaken belief that he's responsible for the license, and that's what his colleagues seem to read from it. But that thread on rllmuk (and his later reply on Twitter) show that he was being supportive. All a bit crazy really.

Excellent, well done that man. And you're doing a good job with that thread too. It's nice to know some good can still come out of the Dojo amongst all the snide cynicism. Here's a more convincing show of support from Steve Lycett if you get challenged on the enthusiasm in his initial tweet that you linked to: I think S0L joined in because he saw my post on rllmuk forum, apparently he's since been haraunged by Shenmue fans, unfortunately... What more can you tell me about this?
