I'm a big fan of Survival Horror like Resident Evil and Silent Hill (more psychological horror), as well as the great realism, storytelling and immersion of Shenmue for a gaming world. Considering Shenmue is such a groundbreaking game, no one has really taken up the mantle of copying it for want of a better word. Look at RE, we've had loads of immitators that have been good and bad. Are developers too scared of Yu Suzuki's vision? With the Shenmue game trilogy nearly over, I think Sega should make another game, use the same game engine and QTE and such, but have an old Japanese ghost story for its basis. A missing person perhaps, like Fatal Frame (Project Zero) was, though ten times better hopefully. Imagine going round a town listening to legends and myths from scared old men and there being a spate of ritualistic murders or something. Horror has never been done this way, and it would blow away the competition while giving us another 'Shenmue' of sorts after it is all over. Because if after Shenmue 3's concluding chapter, we don't get any other games like Shnmue again, it will be a sad day for the game industry..... Come to think of it, the film Jaws Shenmue style would be class! Maybe the sea is the way to go.... Any suggestions/feelings?

LOL ;D
i dont the sea is the way, i can just imagine Shenmue 1 being a horror game, the town and harbour all in it, you play as Ryo Hazuki, suddenly his tranquil day to day life is broken by a mysterious murder, one of his best friends Tom has been brutally murdered, his body torn apart, then more and more people get killled, people stop coming out of there houses in fear, ryo must get around the town like in RE2 with loads of undead trying to tear his flesh off, you use ryo's ace moves taught to him by his father to kick the shit outta the undead, and you get to use his dads sword and stuff, that would so rule! what does everyone think of my idea?

That sounds a great idea, a little like the new Sony PS2 game Siren set in a Japanese village.
I know, how about a Shenmue private detective game. It's pretty close to the actual Shenmue game, but you could be like Columbo in Japan! Maybe add some GTA style driving bits, an address book of informants, handling divorce cases and other cases alongside teh big murder one to pay the bills (which would add the Suzuki exploration of emotions), plus the Mafia involved = a classic!!!

all your ideas are great. I can just imagine walking down by abe's store and seeing a dead fuku san and I use the sword to kick his ass.
Hey pat maybe you should put up a section on your site and put all peoples stories up. LOL also thanks for the idea;)

Why does no one like Fuku-san? IMHO he was in on it with Lan Di, I mean how did he get his ass kicked that much with all the block moves and martial arts he knows? He was a bit of a fish wife and a mother rolled into one for Ryo, but what about that slightly 'gay' ex-gang member who you meet up with in the Harbour again? Just plain annoying... reminds me off that great dialogue when Ryo is looking for some sailors. "You're not looking for just ordinary sailors, are you?" lol

lol, that would be great. It is always dark and you are going around town with Nozomi and she dissappears, suddenly you se flashes of somewhat clear, distorted people and Lan Di appears and kills you. End of story

There are some things that would ruin the game if it was made into a survival horror game though. some of the story would be changed almost completely and Yu Suzuki definetly wouldn't write it because he wants the Shenmue series to have a warm feeling to it that makes the gamer happy when you experience the Shenmue world. Even though there are some gloomy things that happen in Shenmue Yu suzuki wants the Shenmue experience to be a happy and united one
