Quick question, as I'm genuinely baffled: On the Team Yu webpage, why has someone manually re-typed that whole description instead of just copying and pasting? I can tell from the added spelling and punctuation errors (sorry) that it's been re-typed, despite being the same wording, which seems like a heck of a wasted effort! Are the Ctrl key and right mouse button broken on someone's computer? ;D

^Been sent to your hotmail mate. Replied by PM. Where can I find that response video? I thought YouTube would make it pretty easy so maybe I'm just blind.

Just had a look at this. It's basic but serves its purpose in getting the word out there to Shenmue fans who browse YouTube. Could probably do with having Shenmue in the title though, to make it more eye catching and search-friendly. Again for the record it's Shenmue500K's petition, it just happens to be right in tune with Team Yu's goal. I'll PM you my email address for that document John.

Are you talking about something new in the last day or two, or something from the flustered exchange a little while back?

As I said on Facebook recently, the social community team running '@sega' don't appear to realize that when people tweet them we are rarely addressing the front line staff behind the keyboard, who are individually powerless to provide what the fans are asking for. Rather people are of course addressing Sega as a company, who are represented to the public by their official @sega Twitter page.
The Sega forum admins and the people who open Sega's mail can't make decisions either, but their job is surely to act as a communications interface between the fans and the people within the company who can do something! Otherwise they may as well not bother checking their 'mentions' page at all.

I'll have to check out the video later, but I agree about each of us specialising in different areas. I've got my hands full with what I've been doing so far, so someone else focusing on forums, etc, is the best idea.
Where's the peed off response from Sega that you mentioned on Facebook? Have you got a direct link? On Twitter this can be found by clicking the timestamp below the tweet.

Shenmue has been trending on Twitter. On the petition front, Shenmue500K already has one for giving Yu the Shenmue license - I've retweeted the link a few times and also put it on the Facebook page, so have a look for that and get sharing. Actually it would be a good idea to add a link to that petition on the Team Yu page here on Shenmue UK.

The crappy browser on my phone (Opera for BlackBerry - utterly ruined by its last update) has made it difficult to read the whole of your post John, but if I understand correctly from skimming over it, you're suggesting we use the signatures on a general "we want Shenmue 3" petition as proof of support for our campaign?
I don't think we can do that directly, as it would essentially be changing the question after so many people have answered. Those people have only gone on record to say that they want Shenmue 3 to be made, not that they specifically want Sega to let Yu Suzuki have the license. We'd be misrepresenting them to claim they are all in support of Team Yu.
We can, on the other hand, use it as a statistic within our argument - eg, "65,000 signatures on just one of several petitions demonstrate a demand for Shenmue 3, yet Sega still does nothing constructive with the franchise. Only Yu Suzuki appears to care about giving the fans what we are all clearly yearning for." This way we're not claiming that those signatures are in specific relation to the licensing issue.
It could also be useful to quote the number of members associated with Shenmue 500K, although the group's name instantly makes the total sound less impressive than it should. By always comparing their tally to the dream target of half a million, they inadvertently make an otherwise impressive number seem like a drop in the ocean.

Shenmue and Shenmue II were artistic moments of glory, but there's a strong case for them being the opposite in terms of business. Sega did lose a LOT of money on those games and it's held partly responsible for their collapse as a hardware company. The games were awesome to play, but for Sega they came at a well documented cost.
That's why I really don't blame them for not making Shenmue III themselves. For the sake of his own career, no executive at Sega wants to be the guy who neglected to learn from the company's past and oversaw the failure of yet another Shenmue game. We all might believe it won't fail in this day and age, but every game is made with the intention and belief that it will be a financial success - even those that flop. Sega can afford to take that risk with other games, because if it doesn't work, at least they can say they took every measure to justify the investment. But in the back of their collective mind they know that if Shenmue III failed, heads would roll for even trying to resurrect the series in the first place. If it's a resounding hit, great! If not, then the idea itself was inexcusable. While being marched out of Sega HQ the guy who greenlit the sequel will be asked, "How could you be so stupid? So ignorant of what has gone before?" Nobody wants to be that guy.
That's what I mean by baggage. The only way to escape that legacy, that albatross around Ryo Hazuki's neck, is to let Yu Suzuki take the license elsewhere. Other developers and publishers won't be subjected to the same shame if sales don't live up to expectations. It's a chance worth taking for anyone but Sega, who daren't put themselves in the position of explaining why they let it happen a third time.

It does seem like a no-brainer. But with Sega it seems there's too much baggage attached to the Shenmue franchise. Of course, as with anything I've said about them throughout this campaign, I'll be the first one doing crazy cartwheels if they prove me wrong.
Not just cartwheels, crazy ones.
Jet Set Radio was actually trending on Twitter today, and brought out a bucketload of Shenmue fans reacting to the news with similar wishes for Ryo's adventures to be next. So I've had to cast aside any attempt at creativity with my tweets and just "leaflet drop" the same generic Team Yu reply to all of them. I feel dirty.

@patrick Shenmue 500k may have been less practical than Team Yu, but we dont have to conform to their standards. If we work together, they could adopt the whole GiveYuTheShenmueLicense idea and we could get more potential members as Team Yu members are less than 500k. So it goes both ways buddy. @sweaty, ahh sooo thats what you look like. No probs mate, hope that made u happy u got more potential members now. And dont forget the Team Yu aim, we promote it to 500k and 500k adopt the #GiveYuTheShenmueLicense idea/drive. #GiveYuTheShenmueLicense was actually their hashtag first, it's Team Yu that adopted it as soon as I saw them use it the first time! Seemed more self explanatory than the old #TeamYu tag. And yes, well done for reaching out to them on Facebook. Turns out the reason they didn't reply to my DM on Twitter is because they don't even read their DMs. Oh, to be so popular...

Thanks John. Slightly annoying that Facebook won't let me join the group "as" the Team Yu page, I have to use my personal profile. Oh well, Sweaty is unmasked in all his bearded glory.
