Apparently Johnny knows full well, he's just being an unsociable git.

Glad the news finally reached you, Pat! I did wonder.
I've emailed Johnny, as it seems strange that he hasn't resurfaced by now. Especially after the portrait he drew of one of the PlayStation execs to help try and get their attention. I know he frequently cuts himself off from the Internet to retreat into his studies, but can the news really have passed him by for this long?

Shenmue UK's too cool to be seen on any official website. This place is underground, man.

Why do people delete their Facebook account instead of just... not using it? Johnny does it every couple of months too.

Cheers mue, he also managed to email me from the Dojo so I've discussed it with him. Basically I feel it would overcomplicate the Tweetathon to ask all participants to include multiple hashtags and usernames in their tweets, but hardcores could do more to highlight for Corsi and Spencer the campaign's size and impact, because they probably do only see a portion of it. How come you don't have Facebook anymore? And yeah, tomorrow's Thunderclap will be the biggest of the year so far. So much for fans giving up hope after GDC, eh? Should be a good day, though no doubt impossible to keep up with.

Don't get me wrong, S-UK has played an integral role in supporting and developing the campaign, by fundamentally not being the Dojo. My suggestion's not intended as a knock on Pat or the history of the forum. Just a glum but practical awareness that it has no future without an overhaul so major that it's probably not worth the effort.

Honestly, I think the best thing to do now would be to switch off registrations and lock the forum. Not delete it, but preserve it as a read-only archive for any useful information that might be buried under the dust, with a visible notice acknowledging that active discussion can still be found on other sites.
I appreciate there are sentimental reasons for keeping it open (believe me), but Shenmue UK has passed the point of no return and it now only serves as a haven for spambots to boost the search rankings of whatever scams they're sent here to shill.
Most importantly, the state it's fallen into is not the impression I'd like any fan to receive of the current Shenmue community, which is rather thriving elsewhere. If visitors have to encounter a decaying, dilapidated forum filled with dick jokes from six years ago, I'd prefer it was made clear to them that this is a historical resource, and not representative of modern interest in Shenmue. Locking the forum and displaying a notice of explanation would accomplish that.

Delete the link too or the spammer still has what he wants.

It was the number one trending campaign on Thunderclap today. If you're still awake you've got another few hours to sign up if you want to be part of that, otherwise just look at the numbers: TeamYu.net/Dec3rd

It's been a far bigger team effort than usual this month. With so much excitement surrounding the Sony situation, people who aren't usually keen to lift a finger or see through on their promises have been extraordinarily helpful. And those who can always be relied upon to pull their weight have been outdoing themselves. Everyone seems to realise that there's a golden opportunity here not to be missed, and that the Tweetathon is the strongest tool at the entire community's disposal.
As great as that is to see, though, I'm still a bag of nerves over implementing the campaign changes over the coming days. The best time to make these changes was several months ago, and now the timing is a little awkward but it won't get any better until biting the bullet. I just hope it goes smoothly and we can look back on it as a step forward and not a stumble backwards.

I stopped doing that a couple of months ago when I discovered Twitter was omitting tweets in its search results. The only reliable figures going forward are those on Thunderclap, and this month has broken those records already.

His own, as far as I know. He's joined the Tweetathon a couple of times in the past. He also answered a callout from the guys who made that Shenmue II documentary, as they were looking for other people to appear in the follow-up, and he was going to be in Japan anyway. So we might see him in that as well, when it surfaces.

As for Thunderclap it's getting some extra publicity from one of Adam K's latest videos, and it's been linked discreetly on the Dojo's front page for what that's worth (a proper post about it is also promised).
