Glad you appreciate true wit, Pat.
I've submitted a "Reader's Feature" to GameCentral on the Metro website, which I'm hoping they'll run next weekend (to coincide with the June 3rd Tweetathon), but it depends how they think it compares with other submissions they receive. I had to overrun the word limit by a fair chunk, but not as much as someone else whose article they chose last week about the merits of a 3DTV. Fingers crossed.

An RPG was never going to achieve that position outside of Japan, and inside Japan Shenmue is a very different style to any RPG that's proven to sell systems on its own. That's something Sega could have identified before investing seventy million dollars into its development, so more fool them if that's what they were banking on.

@sweat, where the heck did your posts go?? They needed more work, so I figured I should take them down till I can post something conclusive instead of piecemeal amendments.

Thought I was back at the Dojo for a minute there. Indeed some forums more than others will be cynical and unreceptive - but if one person saw that thread and thought to themselves, "I'm not gonna put my head above the parapet here on the forum, but I might actually join in with this on Twitter," then it's been worth the open mockery. When it comes to showing off numbers, the 65000+ signature petition and the growing Shenmue500K Facebook group (currently approaching 13000 members) are better places to start than any of Team Yu's accounts, which are always going to look paltry by comparison. In other news, the @sega Twitter team have been at it again. Here they respond to a Shenmue fan who, admittedly, didn't have the most thought-out approach, but should have been able to expect a more professional reply: (Another tweeter got herself blocked for reacting to them.) But here's a doozy. You might have come across @segabits, a fan account that gets involved in Shenmue talk here and there. Well they tried their luck with @sega, pretending they were being inundated with questions from other gamers asking them for information on Shenmue HD - so what should they tell them? @sega's reply: @segabits I guess send them here, but that title isn't planned / announced - so not much to say.So there you have it. Shenmue HD is not only unannounced, it's unplanned. @segabits went away thinking their trickery hadn't worked, but it actually prompted the first proper denial of Shenmue HD's existence since Ben Harborne's overhyped "...er, don't give up on us, we might be working on games you want to play, possibly, maybe, or maybe not" face saving exercise. Lastly, there are a couple of things I've started on the Shenmue500K group that I'm hoping will pay dividends for the campaign if they get the desired response. This poll asks people whether their copies of Shenmue and Shenmue II were bought new or second hand. I've told people to answer truthfully, but I'm secretly hoping a significant number vote for the latter so as to demonstrate that official sales figures don't reflect the following that Shenmue has gathered since the games were first launched. The other topic I'm placing a lot of stock in is this one, asking fans to share any ways in which Shenmue has influenced their lives or themselves as people. I'll keep my exact reasons for that one close to my chest for now, as you'd think I've finally lost the plot...

Good post. The latest Tweetathon was bigger but I can't remember by how much. You can check yourself at www.twitter.com/TeamYuNeedsYOU/favorites - each tweet is date stamped. There also seemed to be more people retweeting this month, even if they weren't posting anything of their own, though I haven't verified that. I might have just been paying more attention to it than before.

Lehdies an' gents, we're sorry to announce that Barry Newman can't be 'ere tonight, but wiv got the next best thing.
'Ave a look at this Batman Begins poster starring Morgan Freeman. 'Ere y'are, he's right under the S, look. Magic.
Now, er, Morgan Freeman 'asn't recorded any songs for the occasion but we're gonna play a game, right? Cos we all like games. So what we're gonna do is, I'll quote you some lines, and you 'ave ta guess whether they're from a Barry Newman track, or a Morgan Freeman fillum.
Right then, 'ere goes. First one, everyone ready?
(Some time later)
What d'ya mean? I know thiv all bin Morgan Freeman so far, but it's no challenge fer you lot otherwise izzit? It's a game! Didn't ya get the memo?
*gestures towards the poster*
That was another quote, c'mon! Aw look, no, don't leave, we're just gettin' started!
Actually... we HAVE started - and there's no refunds after the show's started, sorry. Nothin' I can do. It's like tekkin' back shoes yiv worn outside, like.
Come again tomorra when wiv got Larry Manilow!

Interesting thread, I've been thinking about this kind of thing for the Team Yu campaign. On a current note, Shenmue's been having a sales resurgence this year. ;D That chart shows the market price of used copies shooting above the $20 mark for the first time in years, where it's previously been bobbing between around $10 and $15. So the recent excitement around the game hasn't just been reflected on Twitter - people are being inspired to dig deeper in their pockets than they have for some time...

You say "met," but are you sure she knows you're there? It looks like you're discreetly gatecrashing someone else's celebrity moment.
