Fingers crossed for the miraculous return of jelly legged physics, which allows entirely realistic collapsing into a sodden heap by so much as thinking about walking in front of a car.
Rockstar truly are geniuses.

Yes.
But it's pretty shit that it was better than a.) the main game and b.) the biker expansion that came before it.
Priorities.

You really should. They came pretty damn close to perfecting the blend of "realism" attempted in IV with the fun of the older games

I read an article a while ago that perfectly summed up my problem with the GTA games: there's no real direction, no consistency. The actual cinematic's themelves are great, but it doesn't correlate to gameplay and thus the game feels incongruous and awkward.
eg. in the cutscenes Niko plays the part of troubled man with a good heart and heavy conscience. Yet two minutes before the cutscene you most probably brutally mowed a few civilians down without thought while rushing to your destination. Driving safe isn't a realistic option in GTA 4. or Niko single handedly murders a small army of well armed men during a mission, but then in a cutscene he'll get pushed around or intimidated by a single guy with a gun.
There's no continuity between gameplay and story. And what's more while there many distractions to entertain yourself with in the city, none of them are actually meaningful as they don't relate in at all to the main story and so again feel incongrous. How many of us could actually be bothered to on dates with Brucie after his missions are done and just wished he'd stop calling? That's because it has no context in the overall story.
It's not impossible to match freedom with story and tone, but Rockstar haven't achieved it yet.

very good points there
but can you remind me the cutscene where niko is pushed around and intimidated by a guy with a gun? i seem to remember him not taking any shit from anyone in any of the cut scenes, a true bas ass he was, he usually intimidated dickheads who fucked with him or his friends
