Pat, you have to go to your user control panel and edit your profile so that you can view the junk forum. it's fucking stupid.
Also, I agree with your upper statement in the top of your post.

And the mature topic change by Ryudo in mues SUcK topic is just really not going to appeal to new members. And it makes Mue look like an unfunny cunt since he made the topic so it looks like the topic title was his Noooooooooooo! I didn't even know he did that until just now! Now I look like an unfunny cunt and we all know that's not true, lads.

Alright, I've booked my one way ticket to Salt Lake city. It will be perfect because the night before the battle I can have a night of uninhibited passion with JoePesciAddict, and by that I mean sit down and intensely play Shenmue with him until the hour of reckoning is upon me. I'm only buying a one way ticket in case I A) get killed ny Ryudo or B) decide I prefer a life spent closer to Joe.

I have some constructive criticism to offer, if I may.
*steps off trapdoor*
*dodges spears*
*throws doped meat for the unleashed hounds*
I understand that most of the regular posters around here have been going back and forth with each other for years, having to make their own entertainment because of the scarcity of new blood. It's the same for a lot of niche forums. But when I signed up I was quickly discouraged from participating in what had first seemed like interesting threads, because they had dissolved into the same random slanging matches (all good humoured of course) that seem to fill the whole forum. I recently replied to a thread in the general gaming section, and felt like I was the one dragging it off topic by discussing the subject written in the title.
If I was to suggest a change to the forum, it would be trying to keep a separate section for quirky banter about who's mum's fattest and who's dad's got the biggest collection of gay porn, and in the other sections, not being deadly serious or regimented, but trying to be more mindful of what people will be hoping to find when they open each thread. Just a bit of self-moderation really, for the good of the site.
But I can only tell you my first impressions and experiences, for what they're worth. At the end of the day this is your corner of the Internet, and I'm not saying anything should change if it's going to make existing members miserable. It just depends how much you want to attract the few potential new posters who might be interested in a Shenmue-themed messageboard.

I saw your post in the Worst game thread, and also thought the same thing! I'm only new myself, so have no idea about what it was like back in the day, though it does seem it was a more thriving site at one point. The problem is (I think) that the activity on any Shenmue forums period, have dramatically declined in recent years. Take the Dojo for example, probably the worlds biggest Shenmue forum, nowadays you'll rarely see more than 15 members online at any one time and most of them only post rarely. So when it comes to a less established UK perspective Shenmue site (with a cheaper/older forum design) that number would be significantly less. Hazuki dojo for example, is another long running Shenmue site alternative to the Dojo, which is both more organized and banterless, yet it's a complete ghost town with maybe one post per month. It seems to me, that more and more long term members of the Shenmue community are growing up and leaving it behind, due to the lack of interesting Shenmue news or whatever reason. With that said, though, if there would be a chance of attracting even just a few new regular members, I would support a re-structure of the site. But then we run the risk of potentially ending up like Hazuki dojo, with absolutely no activity at all, if the plan doesn't work. On a side note, I just went on to Hazuki Dojo to check it out, and my anti virus programme informed me that the site attempted to send me a trojan!!! WTF Hazuki Dojo!

Well, I can certainly understand Sweaty's stance on the forum being more diverse, with a banter section and a more focused, topical section. I don't know if it really would attract too many more members, really. We did attempt to have rules more strictly in place at one point, but what that did was attract younger, power hungry members that wanted to suck on my balls or Pat's. They asked to be moderators and they tried to suck up to us, without ever having anything truly genuine or funny to offer the community. I think what really would attract more members is some concrete Shenmue news. There was a point when Shenmue Dojo was about as bad as it is now, and that was after the Dreamcast was cancelled. But as soon as Shenmue II was announced and released, the influx of forum activity was off the charts. It was exciting and lively, all the while being funny and quirky and creative. It was a great place to be... then it all went to shit. Like the Roman empire, it collapsed within itself and it never really regained its feet again after that mess. This forum has never been as lively as the Dojo, but I can assure you beyond the banter there is substance to each of the members here, and we all can contribute insightful things throughout varying topics. It is a tight knit group, a small one, and it has always been that way. I want to heed your advice though, maybe if the other members are on board, we can clean it up a little, and separate plain old banter and meaningful discussion.

Yeah, I think Sweaty does have some good points. I think we should maybe clean things up slightly. For example we have different sections like site info, serious convo and outland, but to be honest it's nothing but the same banter (albeit fine, fine banter). So even forgetting trying to attract new members for a minute, it would probably even help our own discussions if say in the serious/debate section we really had serious convo's or debates, ect. Because as you say joe, the members are all interesting here and all do have real substance and meaningful discussion to offer. So maybe we could clean things up a wee bit, without losing the vibe of the place?

I wouldn't object if all the dumb stupid posts were kept purely in the outland, but I probably wouldn't post anywhere else in all honesty

Why don't you teach us things any more, Beeds Off topic. Any more and you'll be banned. The being more strict about rules thing has been tried before... and quickly forgotten about. We do tend to discuss subjects seriously when we actually have something to add to the discussion, and when we dont we banter and let the topic go where it may. That doesnt mean if anyone has something to add to the topic they shouldn't post it. On the contrary. If it interests us we'll reply back. Personally I enjoy how the banter plays out, almost like our own improv troupe, and without it instead of having better conversations we'd likely end up with dead sections, and dead sections arent very appealing either to potential members, in this cynics opinion.
