HTML is not a programming language. It is a "markup language". The difference is more or less that a web page doesnt have the ability to make decisions like a programming language does. HTMl doesn't have selection structures, repetition structures, arrays, or any of the other major componenets of a programming language. Javascript and PHP are programming languages, HTML is not.
However, PHP and HTML are somewhat related. Bercause PHP uses HTML for most of the visual part of a PHP file.
HTML is simple, you just learn code that makes a website look a different way, not nearly the challenge of programming. And I'd have to say from the looks of it, C++ or Java is probably the most related to PHP. I also find HTML incredibly boring, probably becuase I've known it since I was like 10. Knowing it didn't help me to learn my first programming language (VB)

Oh yeah, my friend told me that it was related to C++ the most but on a website (think it was called phpbuddy or something) it said that if you know html then php is a breeze. I don't know much at all about coding, I guess I just haven't taken any time to actually try. But if I can get to it, I am sure I could start learning

I learned HTML like when I was 13, I too find it pretty boring. Plus you can't really do anything amazing with just HTML so if you want your site looking good you have to rely more on images, although you do need to know HTML to make everything and put it in place. Although thats just my opinion. I only know the very basics of C++, I brought C++ For Dummies and it came with a CD-Rom with a complier on it which was cool. I know about variables and what not, I got side tracked by exams though but hopefully I'll get back into it again. The only thing I made with C++ is a simple conversion program. It converts Celsius To Fahrenheit, it was an example in the book to work with. I made changes to it though by changing the variable to double instead on Integer (sp?) so it could calculate decimals and not just round em off. Check it out HERE

I'm actually making Tetris in Java right now. Its pretty tough though, I got the basics, but its really buggy right now. I hope to have a publishable version within a week, but it will depend how many of the errors I can get out
I'll be going to the best computer science university in Canada next year (and prob ably for the next 5), so hopefully I'll be able to do some really awesome stuff

i have it working correctly right now, but i just wanna add some scoring and try and eliminate a few bugs before I publish it. Its an applet, and that means that it can be part of a webpage, so it will be easy to post
