Don't make me laugh! Snes was for the gaming purists who enjoyed classic gaming and Nintendo innovation. Sega were always trying to catch up with Mario, and using the cool tactic by shoving trainers on a blue hedgehog never worked for me. To be honest, I preferred the game mechanics and level structures of Mario. Sonic games really just had speed which I found too in your face. Don't get me wrong, both are classics, but it's the truth that Mario is still revered today whereas Sonic has died a death. Mega Drive used to just rely on movie game licenses, I think the image appealed to the teenager more. Nintendo banning the blood in Mortal Kombat was a huge coup for Sega, and maybe they won the war nearer the end of the Snes's life. But c'mon, it had Street Fighter 2, Castlevania IV, Pilotwings, Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Lion King, Aladdin, Super Mario Allstars, Super Bomberman.....NEED I GO ON? It wiped the floor for innovation and classics, that are still trying to be imitated today by Xbox and Gamecube!

It wiped the floor for innovation and classics, that are still trying to be imitated today by Xbox and Gamecube! What! The Megadrive is one of the best systems ever made! The games were so fun, it had so many classics and inovative games. some of my favourites: Sonic Series, Golden Axe series, Streets of rage series, Lion King, Virtua fighter 2, Mega Bomberman, Fifa 98, Mortal Kombat 3, Virtua Racing, Worms, Eternal Champions, Star Control, Outlander,Micro Machines 96, Road rash series, ALien storm, Robocop VS Terminator, many EA sports games. not to emtnion all the great games released for the two add-ons it spawned. Also i Think sonic is much more alive than Mario, all the Newer 2d sonics are much better than the mario ones (Sonic adventure, sonic adventure 2 are better than Mario 64 and sunshine), and the GBA sonic games are great, Nintendo havent even been bothered to make even one proper GBA mario game yet, they are all old snes re-releases.

im sorry but there can only be one winner in my opinion. I totally agree with pats post above, the snes was and still is a great console, but i think the megadrive is in a class of its own, if sega made an updated version of it to go head to head with all the current consoles like xbox, ps2 and gamecube, it would beat them all into submission! Oh and 3 words STREETS OF RAGE!!!!!!!

I liked the SNES, but Megadrive wasn't bad itself.

[glow=blue,8,600]I dissagree with all of you SNES has loved series like Kirby,Zelda metroid and Mario while Megadrive only started with sonic and people liked mario more cause sonic was a real copy of Mario. I aint saying its crap just that youre wrong about megadrive owning SNES. P.S Block me off and you will have another pilcher on your hands Ok![/glow]

I actually sorta owned a Snes before a Megadrive lol
Me and my brother got a Megadrive in 1991, but it was Half and half so i dident own it completly but i still grw up with megadrive. I then got a Snes all for myself in 1996 and my brother got a Saturn around the same time. I then got a Megadrive II for myself in 1997. I still loved megadrive more though and eventually really wanted to have my own one. I wanted a Saturn aswell but they were too expensive so i dident get one till later on when i swapped my Snes for a Saturn sometime in 2000.
