It doesn't deserve the negative criticism it's had. I thought it was a great movie, though probably not up to the standards of T2.

Its a great movie and it deserves well more than the critics gave it. Although I do agree It wasn't quite as good as the 1st and second. But if you love the terminator movies then you will love this one. (Except for my mom who was underrating it because the kid (John Connor didn't do enough drugs)

All the Terminator films are classics, and very different from one another in a way. The first film is dark and gritty, the second is more about the tragedy in humanity and human emotion/bond, the third is about inevitability and the reliance on technology leading to our possible downfall.
Terminator 3 blew me away, I saw it 4 times at the cinema (just to finally see a Terminator film on the big screen with dolby surround sound, how it's meant to be viewed, as I was too young for T2). That's the most I've seen a film in a repeat showing at a cinema.
Sure it may lean on slightly too much humour at times, and the dead mother bit feels forced (not the writer's fault, Hamilton didn't want to do another). But the last hour and a half are just amazing, and the last 30 mins is the best I've seen in any film. That apocalyptic ending that was very un-Hollywood makes that film standout for me, it's great scriptwriting.
It's hard....but I think...I elevate it above T1&T2 slightly as my favourite. Maybe not as deep as T2 or as dark as T1, but it has more impact. I love seeing Arnie smashed up and more of the machine revealing underneath, the special effects were out of this world. btw, I love the termination of that TX, that was one of the best movie moments in history. Stuff it down her throat LOL!!
It didn't deserve the slight negativity from some critics, it piddled over the Matrix sequels IMHO
