Yeah, and he played rhythm on "Shotgun Blues". Okay... trying to think of a good question here. Alright. Hmm.... Name five singers for Black Sabbath. Easy, but meh. Thats not easy, Ozzy, Gillan, and Dio are easy ones, but I don't know of any others (most were the singer for one album and were unkowns). I haven't heard that Halford was the singer. Tony Martin sang on 3 or 4 albums, but he was still an unknown, so yeah... Rob Halford did indeed front Black Sabbath. It was a show in LA in '92, right after Dio left the band over a dispute. You see, they were opening for Ozzy, and Dio refused to open for Ozzy, so he left... Halford was a quick replacement, since he had nothing to do and knew almost all of the songs. Very cool show; good mix of Ozzy and Dio tunes, and Ozzy even sings the last few songs! He also stood in on one Ozzfest show last year for Ozzy, when he got in the quad bike accident, in Camden, Pennsylvania. I have audio (not video) of both shows. Since Gnfnrs was right first, it's his turn. On we go.

OK.
I took the AMG path instead, seeing as no one else seems intent on trying. The answer is Jim Steinman.

And over two weeks later...
Name one person considered for the lead vocal position in Black Sabbath before Dio got the job.
Hint: Not necessarily someone known for rock music...

^^Mmm I always thought Ozzy was fired and Tony planned all along for Dio to replace him?

I do know that at least one other vocalist was auditioned for the part, but Iommi definitely leaned towards Dio.
The band didn't gel with this guy, though. He went on to form a rock band with Bruce Kulick then start singing sappy ballads for old housewives.

Actually, Captain you're kinna right, kinna wrong. Bolton sent a tape AFTER Dio left and the were trying to replace him, according to this anyway. www.black-sabbath.com/interviews/sharpebookch4.htmlIf you look at the 22nd and 23rd paragraphs you will see that before Ian Gillan joined they were looking through tapes people sent in, and among the tapes was Michael Bolton, but they thought he wouldn't fit. Anywho my go, I guess. The drummer from which band replaced Bill Ward on drums for Sabbath on the Born Again tour, the one with Gillan fronting? [clue; answer is on the page linked above]

I already knew, having read it on AMG awhile ago, that he was from ELO.
That article's interesting, though! Didn't know Spinal Tap got the Stonehenge thing from Sabbath, and I certainly didn't know what Ronnie thought of Gillan's involvement in the band.
And I really don't think "Paradise City" sounds like "Zero the Hero" at all.
Sorry about the Michael Bolton screw-up... although who knows, he may have been considered earlier.

Yeah, thats correct, no problem about the screw up, the fact Michael Bolton was ever linked with Sabbath is enough! Your turn.

I'm going to let someone else go... maybe I'll PM Roadie in a couple of days or someone if nobody decides to go, but I don't feel like making a question.

Dunno if anyone can get this, use a search engine if you have to.
The song "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Emerson Lake and Palmer (ELP) is a cover of what classical artists song by the same name?
